Becoming more selfless

June 13, 2016

In a world filled with endless possibilities, it’s difficult to make the right choices. We often forget how our actions impact others, and the world around us. Time constraint and limited income can attribute to this. However, to a greater extent, greed and carelessness drive people in the wrong direction. Why volunteer at a soup kitchen when you can spend your Sunday at a tailgate? Why recycle your empty bottle when the bin nearest to you is for garbage only? Sometimes these actions are second nature to us. However, in acknowledgement of our mistakes, we must find ways to make change. Regardless of how small that change is, it will make a difference.

What can you do?

Help that old lady walk across the street because it will only take a few minutes. Build a compost pile to reduce the harmful impact of garbage to the earth. If you find litter on the ground or in the grass, dispose of it in the correct bin. Pray for the poor, the disabled, and everyone else who is struggling. Buy products that are made from recycled materials and/or come from companies that donate some of their profits to charity. Overall, just think about the consequences of your words and actions. By becoming both more altruistic and more aware, we can truly make the world a better place.
