Valentine’s Day is not just about chocolates, Hallmark cards, and fancy dinner dates. No. It’s about sharing something money cannot buy.

This past Tuesday, c.HAIR.i.TEE® had the opportunity to join Under Our Wing as they visited kids at the Texas Children’s Hospital. By reading them Avian Kingdom books and giving them Valentine’s gifts that included hand-decorated Valentine’s cards, c.HAIR.i.TEE® and Under Our Wing were able to give those amazing kids something even greater: Love.

In honor of giving love for Valentine’s Day, here are 14 ways you can give love to your family, friends, and even strangers on this day dedicated for love:

  1. Give a hug. There is nothing like showing someone you care by wrapping them in a big bear hug.

  2. Volunteer to help. Whether you volunteer at your church, your local shelter, or your mom’s kitchen, your presence will be a blessing for someone.

  3. Get creative. Take on some DIY projects this weekend and make something for the ones you love.

  4. Take a walk with someone you love. Instead of spending copious amounts of money this Valentine’s Day, simply spend some time with your significant other.

  5. Give a compliment. Perhaps the easiest thing to give, yet the most neglected.

  6. Give them a smile. Smiles are contagious, so spread a little joy.

  7. Give them your time. Dedicate a day or even a moment to doing what your loved one wants to do.

  8. Make a memory. Do something together that you have never done before.

  9. Offer encouragement. Even if they are not having a bad day, everyone could use a little encouragement.

  10. Listen, learn and react. Take the time to hear someone’s story, learn about who they are, and give them attention.

  11. Brighten their day. Whether it’s a silly joke or a funny story, add a little sunshine to someone’s life.

  12. Handwrite a letter. An ever-fading tradition, a handwritten letter is something that can be cherished for years to come.

  13. Show respect. Take the time to appreciate who they are and what they have done for you.

  14. Donate to a charity. If you simply must spend your money this Valentine’s Day, give it to someone who needs it most.
