One thing that makes c.HAIR.i.TEE® products unique is that they are made with 100% recycled materials. Each one of our stylish pieces has gone through the process of upcycling to create a totally new (and in our unbiased opinion, totally better!) item.
What is “upcycling”?
Upcycling is the practice of taking old items and turning them into new products of superior use and quality. It is an important thing to do because it reduces the amount of waste, energy, and pollution associated with the fashion industry.
Why does the fashion industry need more environmentally-conscious brands?
As explained by The Daily Journal, “Let’s consider the steps it took for a cotton T-shirt to arrive at your local mall last Friday. First, the cotton grown to make this T-shirt required 0.40 ounces of pesticides and 713 gallons of water. Then, most of the chemical dyes used to color this T-shirt escaped wastewater-treatment processes, polluting bodies of water where aquatic organisms live. Because 60 percent of the world’s clothing is manufactured in developing countries, ships, trucks and planes released large amounts of carbon dioxide in order to deliver this T-shirt to a store near you. And that’s just for one T-shirt.” Textiles are the second largest polluter in the world, making modern fashion a top contributor to environmental decay. Our founder, Julie Bartos, recently visited a textile recycling plant to learn more about eco-fashion:
The good news is that consumers ultimately drive clothing sales, which means that we have the power to reduce the apparel industry’s adverse environmental impact! c.HAIR.i.TEE® is devoted to doing our part to save the world. Are you on board?
